Becoming an artist is not something we usually set out to do when we pick up a spindle and begin spinning yarn. We want something practical, warm, sustainable, and the manifestation of comfort. We want to make something we’re proud of that makes us feel good.
I wanted to make my own mittens. I wanted to design my own yarns.
I wanted patterns that fit my weird body.
Most importantly, I wanted to express my creative spirit and become an artist through a less-than-traditional medium. Textiles are one of the singular forms of social expression that exists everywhere.
Making (and using) yarn is a journey of the self.
